Scorpio Full Moon – April 21 – 22, 2016
The Full Moon forms at 02 degrees, 30 minutes Scorpio at 10:23 pm PDT on April 21, and at 5:23am GMT on April 22, 2016. We’ve landed in Taurus. But basically, the Aries fire is still burning brightly and it’s right on our tail. Sun, Mercury and Vesta have moved into Taurus; but that’s it. Venus won’t arrive until the last day of the month and Uranus will stay in Aries for a few more years and continue to burn down the house with his sister, the asteroid Eris, Goddess of Discord. So although we’ve left that Aries hotspot for the calm and verdant pastures of Taurus, there’s still plenty going on. No endless pastoral frolicking through lush gardens for us – not for now – not quite yet.
Taurus reminds us to savor the physical pleasure of being alive. Delight in the creature comforts of touch, taste, sight, smell and hearing. Feel happiness running your hands over the silky fur of your favorite animal. Savor the taste of exquisitely prepared food and drink or marvel at the perfect freshness of clean fresh snap peas picked from your garden – perfectly ripe and lightly sweet. Hear the insects and birds as they make their way through the air defining the space with their sound. Smell the warm greenness of spring. See the Sun rise and later watch it set. Hold your loved ones close and feel their flesh against yours. Feel what it’s like to be human – to touch and be touched. Taurus knows these sensations. Ruled by Venus, Taurus is sensate, perceiving the world as form and registering knowledge at the level of the body and its five senses. Taurus takes it slow and enjoys being in the body. Taurus is about being happy to be alive.
Scorpio is the sign opposite Taurus. Our springtime is lush, fragrant and bursting with life and excitement. Taurus, in the northern hemisphere is a time when nature and all life begins to bloom. The initiatory promise of Aries is fulfilled. This is the deepest part of springtime. Scorpio, at the other end of the polarity is the deepest part of autumn – a time when the earth begins to ready for winter. The nights become darker. The trees are bare. The temperatures drop. Cattle are slaughtered for our winter’s nourishment. Things begin to die.
In the midst of life there is always death. All things must pass from this version of life in order to be reborn anew. The Scorpio Full Moon reinforces this notion urging us to permanently release patterns and beliefs that impede our growth as souls. We are experiencing a period of intense review. Five of nine planets are in or about to retrograde. Mercury, turning rx on April 28 in Taurus will be the last planet to join the party. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are all currently retrograde.
So it’s time – I mean really time – to do some serious pruning, weeding and maybe even totally re-landscaping. Those dead branches on the rose bush poking out against this year’s new flowers? They’re not producing any new growth – and they never will again. That thing that you thought just might somehow work out but that is clearly not producing anything resembling growth… maybe it’s time to prune that away – cut it back so that new growth can occur. Pluto co-rules the sign of Scorpio with its ancient ruler, Mars. During this retrograde period, you might ask yourself, “Am I getting what I want/desire? Am I moving forward?” These are Mars questions. And they’re not selfish or of less importance than the so-called “big questions”. They are central to your soul’s growth. You might also ask, “Am I being true to my desire to transform? Am I allowing myself to run my power at full throttle or and I suppressing and strangling myself? Am I afraid of what will happen if I step fully into my power and own the reality of Me?” These are Plutonian questions. Mars will be retrograde for about ten weeks. You’ll have ample time to cogitate on his questions. Pluto will be retrograde for five months – more than enough time to reach some conclusions. Pluto always plays the long game. He’s got nothing but time out there at the edge of our solar system. And mark my words – you will eventually decide or a decision will be made for you. He’ll be in Capricorn until 2026. My advice is to tackle the question sooner – like between now and the end of September.
Venus, the ruler of Taurus is conjunct Uranus in Aries at this Full Moon. Venus in Aries is bold. She’s no shy femme-fatale hiding behind her fan. She squares Pluto now and she stands firmly in her power. In Aries she is more than equal to the task of identifying, stating, and acting upon her desires. She’s willing to hack a new path to happiness. And she might hangout with some unusual characters along the way. Venus is the keeper of our personal values. Her conjunction with Uranus reminds us to safeguard our true, even possibly radical beliefs, and to assert our independence when and if necessary. Venus in Aries has the right stuff for these times. She is not afraid.
Mars is retrograde in Sagittarius. He will move back through Sagittarius into Scorpio, stationing direct at 23 degrees on June 29. In the meantime, he squares Jupiter Rx in Virgo and Neptune in Pisces. This creates a T square which will spur us forward, assisting us to answers the questions posed by Mars and Pluto and to review information pertaining to solutions to the situations posed by the ongoing square of Jupiter and Saturn, namely the old bugaboo of what beliefs, fantasies, and behaviors are not serving us personally and in addition are not promoting healthy growth, tolerance, and peace at a collective societal level. I’ve spoken about this recently so I won’t belabor it… Let’s just say Mars is a busy guy during this retrograde and you should be too! And then there’s Mercury retrograde in Taurus from April 28 to May 22. We all know that drill.
What will make you happy? It’s a simple five word question that we try and try to answer – over and over again. Give it some thought. Please. In the light of the Scorpio Full Moon ask yourself the questions posed by Mars, Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury. Answer as best you can in the moment. There’s no need to rush now. Remember you have some time here. Then ask yourself once again. “What will make me happy?” Keep asking. Refine the process. Keep asking…..The answer can change everything.
