Sagittarius New Moon – December 17 – 18, 2017
The New Moon forms at 26 degrees 31 minutes Sagittarius at 10:30 pm PST on December 17, and at 6:30 am GMT on December 18, 2017. It’s the last new Moon of 2017. The hours of darkness exceed the hours of light during this time of year. As we approach the Winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere the days grow shorter and the nights longer. We see late dawns and early sunsets as well as the low arc of the sun as he crosses the sky. It’s exactly the opposite situation in for those in the Southern Hemisphere. They’re heading into deep summer and all that entails. As Earth approaches her alignment with the Galactic Center; Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and the Moon all in Sadge receive the energies from the center of our galaxy, activating the profound primordial sparks of belief and faith. Not one to sit still, or to be quiet, this Sagittarius new moon will direct us toward the next future. A future that’s closer, deeper, and more imminent than any of us could ever guess.
Two days after the new moon, on December 19, Saturn enters Capricorn. His last days in Sagittarius are significant, as he too is absorbing the universal knowledge and truth that only the Galactic Center can impart. The last two and a half years in Sagittarius has been spent uncovering truths of all sorts. It’s been part of the ongoing work that we’ve all done with perception. We are much clearer in our knowledge and perception now than we were on December 24, 2014 when Saturn made his entrance into Sadge. And we’ve also got greater clarity about what is true and what is not. The New Moon and Saturn encourage reflection, review, and resolution. Add to this, Mercury’s retrograde which reinforces the theme of review, reexamine, and renew. The Mercury Rx will end on December 22 but will spend twice his usual amount of time in Sadge, not exiting the sign until January 10, 2018. So there’s still time for inspiration!
Saturn’s return to Capricorn will mark the first time he’s been home since 1991. If you’re old enough to remember, you might want to look back to 1988-91. What was going on for you? World history will tell you that the Soviet Union broke apart – bequeathing many new nation-states. Also, the Berlin Wall fell. The Chinese student protests of 1989, aka the Tienanman Square Massacre occurred. San Francisco experienced a destructive earthquake, a fatwa was issued demanding the death of Salman Rushdie, the author of “The Satanic Verses”, for crimes against Islam. The Gay Rights Movement gained notoriety and legitimacy with the display of the Aids Quilt on the mall in Washington D.C. And much more. Our times were turbulent then. They are turbulent now and we’re just that much further down that same path.
Saturn in any sign wants to bring Order out of Chaos – but it’s especially important to him when he’s home in Capricorn. Having Pluto as a housemate will be comforting to him. They are both natural politicians. Pluto seizes and holds power. Saturn navigates, organizes, legislates, and administers power. Politically and personally, Saturn is socially responsible. And he expects no less form you. Pluto? Well – he’s a Plutocrat – so what can you expect….? In 2020, Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter will converge in a very rare triple conjunction in Capricorn. This happens once every 700-900 years. The rules are changing. This alignment will require a complete overhaul of our society and a realization of and rededication to the sanctity of our planet.
Jupiter continues his journey in Scorpio. He’s at 15 degrees and square to the Lunar Nodes at 17 degrees Aquarius and Leo. Jupiter is a positive guy who sees the big picture. He likes to expand, live large and stay on the high side of life. It’s what he does best. Squares however, call for adjustments. The nodes represent our current collective trajectory. How do you see your path? Where have you been and where are you headed? Have you reconciled/aligned your feelings and beliefs with the requirements of the path you’re on? Jupiter sees that we’re at a critical juncture. To continue without serious examination of our fears and desires would be foolish in the extreme. Remember, the future is coming up fast. Very soon time will be a luxury.
The Solstice at 8:28 am PST on December 21, includes not only a conjunction of the Sun with Saturn, but a conjunction with the Galactic Center, giving extra weight and gravitas to this particular return of the light. For three days around each solstice the Sun appears to rise in the same place, giving the impression of standing still. It is a time of stillness and a time to receive divine information and inspiration. The Earth’s magnetic field is more open and more able to facilitate the transmission of energies from the universe.
The Sagittarius New Moon is the most potent New Moon of this year. Perhaps the most potent for a while. Realize that the portal you are about to enter contains energies and events that will be totally new to you. Do not expect the same old thing. Be very clear about what you want and don’t want. These are new times and they will require new ideas and new methods. Be ready to decide and move quickly because that’s going to be necessary. Trust that you know what to do and when and how to do it. If there was ever a time to set an intention and to adjust your sights upward and outward– now is that time! It’s all possible and it begins now.
