Sagittarius Full Moon – June 2, 2015
The Full Moon forms at 11 degrees 49 minutes Sagittarius at 9:18 am PDT on June 2, 2015. Sagittarius is the idealist of the zodiac. The constellation lies in the densest portion of the Milky Way near the galactic center. The myths surrounding the sign begin in Babylonia and continue through ancient Greece and Rome. Half horse and half human, the Archer aims high and maybe not so coincidently at the star Antares at the heart of Scorpio, ready to attack the Scorpion should it ever threaten the centaur’s friend Hercules and to avenge Scorpius’ slaying of Orion. Sagittarius is where we consolidate information turning it into knowledge and philosophy. It is where we ultimately discover meaning and truth. This Full Moon shines her light on facts and philosophies alike.
We’re about a week into Gemini now. And we are in the middle of a Mercury retrograde in Gemini. The Sun, Mercury and Mars in Gemini are all receiving an opposition from stern Saturn and a major square from nebulous Neptune. Lots of Gemini energy now. But it’s not really clear what the hell is going on – is it? That in itself is pretty classic Gemini. Mercury likes to have everything going at once! For the time being, the big bad Boogey men, Uranus and Pluto have wandered off to duke it out in some lonesome corner of the cosmos. Jupiter in Leo is pretty unconcerned with the comings and goings of anyone or thing in Gemini. It’s all good with Jupiter. And Saturn in Sag is shaking his finger at the planets in Gemini, but he’s ready to go retrograde into Scorpio for the summer and bother someone else. (We’ll be having a review of Fall 2014. But that’s a matter for another post.)
So that leaves Neptune. He’s been in Pisces for a while now – a couple of years. He’s really starting to feel at home. I mean – after all, the last time he was in Pisces was a shade over 165 years ago. He was lost at sea. He missed the place. But he’s home now and he’s really feeling it! He’s stretching out!!! Neptune in Pisces is squaring tonight’s moon in Sag as well as Mercury, Sun and Mars in Gemini. And this calls for some adjustments. Neptune is inclusive, compassionate, intuitive, transcendent, other-worldly, highly emotional, romantic, sensitive, and oceanic in his acceptance and love of his fellow beings. But he’s also a little sloppy and chaotic around the edges. He can be moody, morbid, and abuser of substances and sometimes, unwittingly, people. He’s not averse to telling a fib or two – no let’s make that an outright lie if the situation calls for it…. And he can be evasive and deceptive. He’s a creator of fabulous illusions and gorgeous fantasies that can actually be sustained for long periods of time as well as deadly delusions and abrupt and painful dead ends. But he’s not really malicious. Not usually and not for long. He doesn’t have that kind of staying power. What he is is highly changeable – extremely mutable and divinely creative. For better or for worse.
Hmmm… you say! Well that sounds like a mixed blessing if ever there was one!!! Yes it is! The energy of the square from Neptune explains a lot! It explains why it’s been hard to wake up lately. Why concentration is difficult. Why things seem so illusory and fleeting. Why time has little or no meaning. Who wants to abandon the dream? Why should we have to wake to the world? Neptune will be in Pisces until January 2026. Neptune’s square to this Full Moon and retrograde Mercury is a rehearsal for the decade ahead. We’ve all spent time at a carnival where the “Funhouse” features mirrors that distort space and proportion. Well, just consider this long transit of Neptune through Pisces to be that – but remember that since we’re talking about Neptune and Pisces – this funhouse is underwater – way underwater. Needless to say, we are going to have to cultivate some new and very original ways of dealing with this! And not just thinking, but our relationship to our bodies, spatial concepts and of course our feelings and emotional bodies too. So far it’s been a little weird. I’m actually looking forward to it and enjoying it. But I’ve got a packed 12th house. Consult your astrologer for advice in these matters.
So – yeah – Mercury retrograde will be over on June 11/12. But we always have that shadow period – so watch your P’s and Q’s for a few days after that. Gemini is a good time to lighten up. The energy is playful and flirty. Maybe you can try on some different ways of looking at difficult situations. Last week I heard someone say “Adversity is inescapable but suffering is optional.” I like that. Let’s give it a whirl shall we? Let information and friendships flow.
We have another Venus intensive beginning on June 6. She’ll be moving into Leo and staying there until October. In light of all the adjustments we’re being asked to make don’t you think it’s time we clarified our values? Venus will be on the job! Enjoy our Sagittarius Moon. She is lovely tonight!
