Leo New Moon – August 14, 2015

Leo New Moon – August 14, 2015

The New Moon forms at 21 degrees, 30 minutes Leo at 7:53 am PDT on August 14, 2015.  Leo, ruled by the Sun, is the sign most concerned with the creation and realization of the sovereign self.  It is here that we fully express the art of being human, with all our individual quirks, strengths, and shortcomings.  Leo is endlessly creative and genuinely self-possessed.  The sign rules the physical heat as well as the spine.  Being a fixed sign, Leo concentrates energy, in this case heat and fire.  It is the sign of the King/Queen symbolized by the Lion, King of the beasts.  Throughout history the monarchy and ruling classes have appropriated the Lion as a symbol of might, courage and invincibility.  This New Moon in Leo occurs at the beginning of the changing of the guard.  We are in for some major changes.

We’ve had a summer of retrogrades and we’re not out of the woods yet.  But change is afoot.  On August 11 Jupiter entered Virgo.  There will be a very different tone to the next year’s energy.  Jupiter in Virgo is NOT concerned with the high visibility, drama, flash and let the good-times roll attitude that characterized his stay in Leo.  No way.  Virgo is an earth sign, noted for its practicality, analytical ability, and remarkable powers of discernment.  Jupiter loves to expand.  His motto is: more is more.  So major adjustments will be necessary after the yearlong Jupiter in Leo party we’ve just experienced.  Jupiter is considered to be in detriment in Virgo.  So let’s just say that he may have to go on a diet, take up yoga, review his investments, dial back his plans for a world tour, and spend some time in the trenches working a local or global charity.  Jupiter in Virgo will be concerned with useful and pragmatic expansion, service, health – both personal and universal, and integration of body mind and spirit.  Jupiter’s last visit to Virgo was August 27, 2003 to September 24, 2004.  So you might want to examine that period in your life.  Compare you now to you then.  What’s changed?  What still needs to change?

This will be a major adjustment and a much needed one!  Venus is still retrograde in Leo until September 6, when she will turn direct but still be in Leo for another fair amount of time. Tonight Venus is invisible.  She is travelling through the underworld.  She will remain hidden until she rises again as the morning star on August 23.  She will rise around 6:00 am just after Mars sets.

We are in a time of reflection.  The New Moon in Leo echoes and amplifies Venus’ retrograde in the sign.  The New Moon is opportunity.  A new cycle begins here and now.  What do you want to let go of?  What doesn’t fit now?  What is true now?   What and who do you value and love?  What are you doing to support that?   The Leo moon insists that raze the parts of the self that are old and decrepit leaving room to renovate and renew the self.  In other words – Are you really expressing and living the current version of you?  Or are you clinging to some ragged sentimental picture of you that was formed 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago?  Or maybe it’s a combination thing that you’ve got going on. That must be pretty uncomfortable!  Is that the “you” that you’re taking out into the world and into relationships, be they intimate, friendly, business, or just acquaintances?  This time at the end of the summer supports reflection, revision, refashioning, and most importantly – responsibility.  We each have to carry our own gear.  We have to be responsible for our “stuff”.    How much of this stuff you willing to drag with you into the coming times? Time to transform again.  You’re getting used to it now aren’t you?  The New Moon kicks off the weekend.  The Sun – Venus conjunction at 23 Leo in August 15 will bring matters to a head.  And then you can chew it over in your head all weekend as Mercury at 13 Virgo trines Pluto at 13 Capricorn.  You’re bound to come up with insightful answers to your queries this weekend.

Saturn is direct in Scorpio now but he’s not finished with his excavation.   On August 21, he squares the Sun at 29 Leo-Scorpio.  This is a minute referendum on the adjustments that have been called for and hopefully implemented over the course of this summer.  Saturn wants a final accounting and he will have it!  This will be a long hard look into the mirror of the self/soul.

As we move forward, there will continue to be a time of examination, reflection, and ultimately a casting off of old useless personas.  These will be replaced by a truer, kinder, freer, more vulnerable and ultimately more calm, loving, and human version of you.  Are you ready for that?

Well, Eclipse Season begins September 12 – 13.  I’d get cracking if I were you. Be gentle with yourself.  Be kind.  But be rigorous and truthful as well.   By the end of September, it’s likely to be a whole different ballgame.  And I’m not talking about the World Series!
