Capricorn Full Moon – July 19, 2016
The Full Moon forms at 27 degrees, 40 minutes Capricorn at 3:56pm PDT and 10:56 pm GMT on July 19, 2016. We are in the last degrees of Cancer/Capricorn at this Full Moon. It’s been a rough year so far. And it kind of snuck up on us. The UK has a new Prime Minister and a new agenda. In the United States, our election cycle is reaching a major crescendo with the Republican convention in Cleveland this week and the Democratic convention in Philadelphia next week. In the last week/month some intense situations have erupted around the world: Brexit, Nice, Turkey, Baghdad, Minneapolis, Dallas and Baton Rouge …. On and on and on. It feels like things are falling apart. And they are.
The Mars in Scorpio retrograde period was difficult. And now that he’s direct, it’s been no picnic trooping back through Scorpio. I mean no fun at all. And it doesn’t help that Mars stayed at 23 degrees after stationing direct for almost two weeks – just long enough to conjunct the Moon in Scorpio on Bastille Day. Wow. You just can’t make this stuff up… Enough already! Mars in Scorpio can be needlessly harsh at times – yes. And he has certainly pointed a huge and brilliant spotlight on our violent nature. Do you want a violent world? Is this really necessary or is it just an enormous hangover that we’re suffering. Are you ready to turn away from violent, separatist, and isolationist solutions? Can you bear the relentless beating of the drums of war? War in your country. War in your city. War in your state. War in your street. In your home. In your heart. Is this what you want? Do you want to live in a state of siege? Think about it. Really think about it.
This Full Moon turns up the heat on an already blazing situation. Mars is quincunx (150 degrees separation) Uranus in Aries at this Full Moon. A quincunx does not easily see resolution or reach an understanding. This is violence and revolution joined with chaos and sustained aggression. The saving grace of the situation is the Sun in Cancer’s square to Uranus. Adjustments can be made at this time. Behaviors can be modified. If we are prepared to look honestly at our emotional habits, examine our ego, and resolve to react differently, real breakthrough is possible.
The Sun participates in a grand water trine with Chiron and Mars at this time at this Full Moon. This forms the base of a configuration known as a “kite”. Atop the trine there are two sextiles (60 degree angle) leading down to the base of the trine, forming the figure of the kite. This gives the trine formation buoyancy and optimism as well as the potential for dynamic movement. Sextiles represent opportunities. And coming from a Capricorn Full Moon they hint at responsibilities and structures we may have forgotten or abandoned. Feelings are highlighted. We must acknowledge our irrational fears that we pretend we don’t have and yet protect and cherish as priceless heirlooms passed down from generation to generation. These are not treasures – they’re time bombs. There is real possibility for healing and movement at this Full Moon. We can’t think our way out of war. We’re going to have to work with love and be willing to follow that path to places we’ve never imagined. We’re going to have to feel our way.
It’s been one long slog from through June and into July. We’re ready for a little respite and relaxation. On Friday the 22nd, the Sun will enter Leo, joining Mercury and Venus. And that will lift the mood considerably! I personally can’t wait for Friday! Venus and Mercury are conjunct in Leo. That’s always pleasant. Mercury is expansive, loving the big picture and the big idea. Venus is a heartbreaker and a scene-maker in Leo. They trine Saturn in Sagittarius which softens Saturn’s usual resolute stance and gives him something to smile about. He’s more willing to unwind and enjoy under this aspect. It’s a quick but moderating influence. After all, we’re not done with this journey and Saturn is still involved in the ongoing mutable T-Square with Jupiter and Neptune. Give the guy a break… and maybe we’ll get one too!
We are in a massive transition phase. I guess I’m stating the obvious now. We’ve mostly finished with the energies of five years of Uranus/Pluto squares. It has been chaotic and totally unpredictable. Islamic terrorism continues to rise. Extremist nationalism is rearing its head around the world. Racism and religious fanaticism are rising. Weather has been extreme: flooding, fires, earthquakes, volcanoes, drought… the list goes on. On July 29, Uranus will station retrograde in Aries. He does this every year for about 155 days. This gives us time to integrate the changes of last 2/3 of the year. The area of your chart being transited by Uranus holds the key to where and how you will or won’t adapt to the coming changes. It’s not a question of when or if change will happen. It’s happening here and everywhere and it’s happening now. The retrograde will end on December 29, 2016. Moving forward, Uranus will trine Saturn for most of 2017.
We all know the old song: It can go easy or it can go hard. Either way it will happen. Ride the wave. Harness the dragon. Decide. Do what you’ve got to do. Make the changes. Capricorn is the Master Earth sign – Mr. Saturn himself. And if anyone knows the virtue of doing what needs doing, it’s Capricorn. The way is opening. It is time to move forward – even though you might not feel like it. The Capricorn Full Moon advises us to be practical. And he also knows that nothing is perfect.
