Aquarius New Moon – January 30, 2014
The New Moon forms at 10 degrees 55 minutes Aquarius at 1:38 pm PST on January 30, 2014. Happy Lunar New Year – The Year of the Horse! The Horse is energetic, intelligent, swift, and exuberant. He/she is also fiery, impatient, and lacks restraint, going full tilt and giving no quarter. Horse natives have excellent communication skills, tend to pursue high profile careers, and can often succeed with amazing rapidity. In China the horse is not used for farm work. That job falls to the Ox. The horse is revered for his high intelligence, beauty and ability to transport humans with style and speed. This year is a Wood horse year. Wood fuels fire and this should be a supercharged Year of the Horse.
This is also the second SuperMoon of the year. The Moon is at both perigee (its closest approach to Earth) and syzygy (a new or full moon). This generates extra gravitational and electromagnetic pull (higher tides and shifting tectonic plates). Earthquakes and volcanos erupting anyone – literally or figuratively? The Aquarian New Moon illuminates a new path; futuristic and untried. This New Moon is a referendum on the challenge set by the New Moon in Capricorn on January 1. The Cardinal Cross although not exact is still strong. We are feeling the very edge of the imminent energy of the future. We are ready for reform and revolution. The Aquarius New Moon casts its light on community – the place of the individual in unity with others. Change happens and sparks one heart and one mind at a time. We are living in a time of spontaneous ignition. This moon gives us a clear glimpse of possible futures.
Mercury is at 29 degrees Aquarius. He’s ready move full speed ahead to Pisces. But on February 6th he will station retrograde at 3 degrees Pisces. Most of his retrograde period will be spent in Aquarius, turning direct on February 28 at 18 degrees Aquarius. This is not the best time to begin a project, travel, or sign important documents. So, if you’re thinking about doing your taxes during this time – you might want to reconsider. It would also be prudent to hold off on purchasing any high tech or electrical equipment, automobiles, or major appliances. Your time will be better spent re-viewing, re-organizing, re- thinking, re- aligning and re-structuring. You get the picture and you know the drill. The Winter Olympics will begin on February 7 in Socchi, Russia. They will end on February 23, one week short of the end of Mercury’s retrograde. This should be very interesting – to say the least…..
Venus turns direct in Capricorn on Friday, January 31. Pluto and Jupiter form an exact opposition that same day. What have you learned about love, money and what has value? What matters? What doesn’t? It should be getting clearer now. – crystal clear. Venus and Pluto are conjunct in Capricorn, in opposition to Jupiter in Cancer and square Uranus in Aries. This is ¾ of the tension of the Cardinal Cross – a T Square. We are enjoying a sort of temporary reprieve from the Cardinal Cross. Don’t get too excited. It won’t last long. Uranus, the great revolutionary and modern ruler of Aquarius holds the center of this T Square. Radical ideas and solutions may begin to look attractive to everyone – not just the habitually bold among us. It’s likely that as the Cardinal energy builds toward the Grand Cross in April we will seek increasingly drastic, innovative, and profound solutions. The feeling of an imminent energy shift is pervasive. If it were any more intense you would be able to reach out and grab it.
February 2 is the winter cross quarter day known as Imbolc, Candlemas, St. Brigid”s Day and Groundhog Day. This is mid-winter. The light is ascendant and only six weeks stand between us and the Vernal Equinox in the northern hemisphere. Imbolc is one of the fire festivals that mark the shifts of light at the center of the season. Strike a match. Light a candle. Smooth the ashes of your fire before you go to bed. Check the ashes for St. Brigid’s cross drawn in the ashes the next morning. Know you have been blessed. Light the fire. Don’t forget – you can’t start a fire without a spark. Light it up!!! Let it burn!!!
